Dressage has gone from a sport performed by “riders who couldn't jump or do cross-country” to one that influences much of the rest of the equine industry, even those who ride western. One good example is that our system of developing and keeping judges current has become a model for other equine disciplines. Since that long ago time, we in the dressage industry have seen a quantum leap in the expectations for increased excellence by competitors. Instructors and coaches demand more accuracy, energy, and straightness, not to mention uphill balance. The list is endless. Judges expect the same with the added element of Expression! Each new set of tests present more difficulty both in movements and point possibilities - all in an effort to bring the U.S. closer to the level of expertise in Europe. For this reason the need for better qualified instructors, more competitive riders and well- educated judges has escalated.
